Should you build custom software at all?

Build when the process is a genuine differentiator, when per-seat licensing will scale painfully, or when integration between systems you already own is the real problem. Buy when the process is standard and a mature product already solves it well. If you cannot articulate why doing it differently matters, buy.

We will tell you when off-the-shelf is the better answer, because a custom build that should have been a subscription becomes a maintenance liability you carry for years. The useful test is whether a competitor would be interested in how you do this. If they would shrug, buy the product.

The case most often missed is integration. Many businesses do not need a new system — they need the systems they already own to talk to each other. A modest integration layer over existing products is frequently the highest-return software project available, and far cheaper than replacing anything.

Built for Thai business requirements

Thai VAT and withholding tax handling, Thai address formats, Thai-language search that works without word boundaries, LINE integration, and PDPA-compatible data handling. International products routinely treat these as afterthoughts, and discovering the gaps after go-live is expensive.

Thai-language handling deserves specific mention. Thai has no spaces between words, which breaks naive search and sorting in systems designed for European languages. If your application needs to search Thai content, that requirement has to be designed in rather than patched on.

The same applies to PDPA. Consent capture, retention limits and the ability to locate and erase one person's data across the system are architectural decisions. Retrofitting them into a finished application costs several times what building them in would have.

You own the code

The contract assigns you the source code, the documentation and the deployment pipeline. A custom system you do not own the code to combines the disadvantages of building and buying — you carry the cost of bespoke software with none of the control.

Ask this of any development partner before signing, including us. A surprising number of arrangements leave the client licensing software that was built specifically for them, which makes changing supplier effectively impossible.

We also hand over the infrastructure code and CI/CD pipeline. If your next team is internal or another vendor, they inherit something readable rather than something only we can operate.
